Instruction Manual for R4 Action Replay Cheat v1.01
Starts from the v1.08 official version, the R4 supports Action Replay function, simultaneously supports the official Action Replay database and the user database. The R4 Action Replay Cheat uses for the creation and edition of user’s database, either supports the user manual input or XML files import.
1) Instruction of Menu
After start, main interface shows as below:

First, let’s introduce the manual items one by one as below:
File(F)—>New cheat database
Create a new cheat database, and delete the current data (before deleting there will be a prompt about whether to preserve).
File(F)—>Open cheat database…
Open the cheat database users already have, if there are some cheat codes in the current database, the opened data will be added behind the cheat codes, to use this function will complete the merge of several databases.
File(F)—>Save cheat database…
Save the current cheat database to the user database (please preserve it as a usrcheat.dat file and put it under the _system_ folder).
File(F)—>Import XML file…
Import the cheat code of the XML file, if there are some cheat codes in the current database, the imported data will be added behind these cheat codes.
File(F)—>Exit
Exit the current application program (before exiting, there will be a prompt about whether to preserve).
Code(C)—>Add game
Add a game item behind the current database.
Code(C)—>Add folder
Add a folder item behind the current game; the R4 Action Replay only supports the level one folder structure.
Code(C)—>Add cheat
Add a cheat item behind the current game or folder.
Code(C)—>Delete selection
Delete the current item (delete game, folder or cheat items in one time)
Tools(T)—>get GameID from ROM
Searching GameID from the ROM.
Tools(T)—>find first SAME game
Searching the duplicate game in the database, and highlight the first duplicate game.
Tools(T)—>find next SAME game
Continously searching if there are games and selected games duplication, and highlight the next duplicate game.

2) Adding Cheats Mannually
A) Create a new cheat database
A new cheat database will be created each time when starting the Action Replay cheat or press “File (F) —>New cheat database”, input a description on the “Description: ” place, and the information shows on the bottom line of the R4 cheat interface under screen.
B) Create a game
Press the “Code(C)—>Add game” to add a game item, as picture shows below:

Input the name of game on the “Game name: ” place, the information shows on the top line of the R4 cheat interface above screen.
“Game ID:” is composed by two parts, the first 4 letters are for the game “Game code”, the last 8 hexadecimal numbers for the game crc code, used for the match of the cheat and the corresponding game.
C) Create a folder
Press the “Code(C)—>Add folder” to add a folder item, as picture shows below:

“Folder name:” is used for description of the folder name, the selection “Note:” is used for the description of some attentions.
If selecting “One Hot” then, indicates that only one cheat code can be selected under the folder; otherwise, indicates that more than one cheat codes can be selected under the folder.
D) Create a cheat
Press the “Code(C)—>Add cheat” to add a cheat item, as picture shows below:

“Cheat name:” is used for description of the Cheat name, the selection “Note:” use for the description of some attentions.
“Cheat data:” use for input the cheat code, indicated with 16 hexadecimal numbers, every 8 numbers place a space, please certainly press “Update Code” button after input completed in order to add the data into the database, otherwise it will be lose.
3) Preservation and Opening of the cheat database
After input finished, press “File(F)—>Save cheat database…” to preserve the database ( please preserve as a usrcheat.dat file, and put it under the _system_ folder), as picture shows below:

In the preserved process, if certain games do not have any folders or cheat codes at all, then the cheat codes means insignificant that therefore cannot be preserved in usrcheat.dat.
The most amounts of preserved database files is 800 games, the biggest size of database is 4MB.
If need to edit the database before the opened, please press ” File(F)—>Open cheat database… ” to open the old database files, as picture shows below:

Please be aware that if the current database already have some games, the opened database will be added behind these games, use this function will complete the Merge of several databases. (Recommended to remove the duplicated games).
The most size of the opened database supports 4MB.
4) Import of the XML files
There are some XML cheat database in the internet, by press the “File(F)—>Import XML file…” to complete the import of the XML files, as picture show below: If import is failed, please check whether the file format is correct or not, or email this file to R4 team, engineers will analysis it.

5) Use of Tool Menu
A) Searching GameID from Rom
For the new release of the game, users can create their own users’ database to use action replay cheat; Users may use “Tools (T) _getConForKey GameID from ROM” to search the corresponding GameID in ROM.
Firstly open the corresponding ROM, you may select a NDS or IDS Rom in file drop-down box:

Searching results are as follows, you may choose GameID with the mouse, right-click and then copy it to the database:

B) Searching the first duplicate Rom,
sometimes when you merge several databases, there will be duplicate cheats in the same database, but only the first one could be used by chance, although there will be no adverse effects caused by the duplicate cheats, they may use the space in the database, it is the best to delete duplicate ones.
Use of this function will search the duplicate cheats in the database , the cursor will stop in the first duplicate cheat. For example: there are five cheats in the database, No.3 cheat is duplicate one among them:

When using the “Tools (T) ->find first SAME game”, No.3 cheat will be highlighted to remind the users this Rom contains the duplicate cheats:

If there is not duplicate cheats, it displays: “Can’t find any SAME game”

C) Searching the next duplicate Rom
After finding out the first duplicate cheat, using “Tools (T) ->find next SAME game” to identify the next cheat that have the same GameID(that is said to be duplication with the Rom), and highlight the next cheat:

6) Other Introduction
All the descriptions of cheat are recommended in English, which means it can be used and showed on all of the R4 versions.
If the description is in Chinese, traditional Chinese or Japanese, then it can only be used on this specified R4 version, and shows invalid character on other versions.
The descriptions of the database and game name cannot be too long; otherwise it will exceed the scope of one line and shows in disorder.

6) Operation of action Replay Cheat
Choose the corresponding game, if the official database (cheat.dat files under the _system_ folder) or the user database (usrcheat.dat files under the _system_ folder) contains the action Replay Cheat, the below screen will show the “action Replay Cheat (Y)” button, press the Y key or that button to enter the set up interface of cheat.
If the two databases will contain an action replay cheat to the same game, there will be two “action replay cheat” buttons. The official database is on the left, the user database is on the right.
On the top line of the above screen shows the game name, the top line of the below screen shows how many cheat code currently be selected and the total amount of the cheat codes can be selected, the bottom line of the below screen shows the version and created date of the current cheat database.
The function of the six buttons on the below screen is described separately as below:

“select all” press this button to select all the cheat code under the cheat opened circumstance.

“delete all” press this button to delete all the selected cheat code under the cheat opened circumstance.
-
“game open/close” press this button to control the cheat switch of this game, the left frame will show the current status.
-
“cheat open/close” press this button to control the entire cheat function switch, the right frame will show the current status.
-
“preserve and exit” press this button to preserve the current modification, and exit, the same function as well as press the START button.
-
“discards and exit” press this button to not preserve the current modification, and exit, the same function as well as press the SELECT button.
-
Under the cheat opened circumstance, use up and down arrow to choose each cheat code one by one; if it’s the cheat folder, press A to unfold/fold the directory.
-
Under the cheat-opened circumstance, use left and right arrow can go across 10 cheat codes.
If do not need the cheat function, delete the cheat.dat files under the _system_ folder.
When the two databases will contain an action replay cheat to the same game, users can open the action replay cheat in the database to by their needs and another one would be close (close action replay cheat by turning master switch off, closing games or do not choose any action replay cheat), kernel will automatically choose the use of opened action reply cheat (Cheats in two databases opened to one game at the same time, then it will use the one in official database).
efore running game, under circumstance that a cheat has already been opened, in the process of running the game cheat can be temporarily closed by L+R+START+DOWN, you may press L+R+START+UP to open cheat.
7) Read the eBook
Select the eBook in the game menu, and open it by pressing ‘A’ key or touching the icon.
It will ask whether to create a bookmark if it is the first running. Pressing ‘A’ key or touching the ‘Confirm’ button will create and then open the bookmark; Pressing ‘B’ key or touching the ‘Cancel’ button will not run the process; Pressing ‘X’ key or touching the ‘Ignore’ will open the eBook without creating the bookmark (The bookmark’s function is invalid).
- Press ‘START’ key to exit the eBook mode and back to the main menu.
- Click “SELECT” key to switch the character layout horizontally on dual screens, vertically on dual screens or on one screen (mostly used in Asian layout); Backlight turns off under one screen mode in order to save power.
- Press the ‘Up/Down’ key can process the Row Up/ Row Down; Press the ‘Left/Right’ key can process the Page Up/Page Down.
- Press ‘A’ key can open/close the intelligent-paragraph division function.
- Press ‘B’ key to change the font (large, Medium, Small in rotation)
- Press ‘X’ key to change the font color (27 color in rotation).
- Press ‘Y’ key to change the row spacing (From 1-8 point space in rotation).
- eBook support the DIY background:
- Create 2 BMP files (256X192 pixels, 8 bit or 24 bit colors), name them to be “bckgrd_1.bmp” and “bckgrd_2.bmp”, and then save to the “_system_/eBook” directory of the TF card.
If the bookmark has been created, the features below will work:
Whenever you press the ‘START’ key to exit, it can memorize the location where you have read automatically, and it will go to the location directly next time while you open the eBook.
Press ‘L’ key to save the bookmark (3 positions available), press ‘R’ key to keep the previous bookmark (No any change).
8 ) Switch of the Skins
If the skin does not exist in the directory of _system_ in TF/microSD, it automatically uses the Skin from formal Beta Edition;
There are 4 pictures at the directory “system/_system”: logo.bmp ? icons.bmp ? bckgrd_1.bm and bckgrd_2.bmp. They are the background of the R4 operation interface; they can be changed to fit your style.
- logo.bmp - Background of the Top Screen of R 4′ s startup.
- icons.bmp — Background of the Bottom Screen of R 4′ s Startup.
- bckgrd_1.bmp — Background of the Top Screen of R 4′ s Explorer.
- bckgrd_2.bmp — Background of the Bottom Screen of R 4′ s Explorer.
Note:
- Do not change the picture’s name;
- Make sure the picture is .bmp format, 8-bit/24-bit;
- Make sure the picture is 253*192 pixels.
- After finishing process on the pictures, copy the “_system” folder to the root directory of the CF card.
- If the Skin exists in the directory of _system_ in TF/microSD, it automatically enters multi Skins mode.
- The Skins in multi Skins mode can be switched manually and automatically, it is automatically switched with the Skins by months.
- The method of the Skin switch is: Click “SELECT” key in main menu, it switches between twelve manual modes and one auto mode, the chart is showed as below (It automatically skips if the Skin does not exist in the directory of themes):
- If the users would like the switches of multi Skins while playing, they only need create the directory of themes in the directory of _system_.
